Debt Management Programs in the UK

couple looking to get out of debt - consulting with uk debt management companies - signing papers If you find yourself struggling to keep up with your debt payment, there is help that is available to you.

There are many ways to try and deal with your heavy debt load: a secured loan (if you own a home or flat), bankrupty, an IVA or a debt management plan. For many people, a debt management plan is the preferred way to go.

What exactly is involved in engaging the services of a debt management company?

To start with, the debt management company will book an appointment with you. They will usually come over to your home at a time that is convenient for you.

The debt management firm will go over your finances with you, to determine exactly how much you owe and how much you can afford to make per month in payments.

They will then come up with a repayment plan that would consolidate any of your outstanding debts into one payment. They will normally attempt to either freeze or lessen the amount of interest that you will be paying back.

Once they have come up with a plan, they will then approach your creditors to see if they will sign off on their proposed arrangement. Quite often, the creditors will accept the terms of the deal.

At this point, you will make one monthly payment to your debt management firm. They will then pay all of your creditors out of this money. Another benefit of using a debt management firm is that they will communicate with your creditors - you will no longer receive harassing calls at home or at work.

Under the normal terms of a debt management plan, you will be debt-free in five years, provided that you keep up with the payments.
